Dental Implants

There are many reasons adults lose teeth, including tooth decay, gum disease and trauma. However, in many cases, dental implants can be offered which helping to restore both the appearance and function of the tooth. Dental implants look remarkably similar to your natural teeth.

Reasons why dental implants are the superior choice:

  • Function and feel like natural teeth so you will be able to bite, chew, speak and smile with confidence.
  • Increase your confidence by enhancing the appearance of your smile.

to limit the bone loss that often naturally accompanies missing teeth
  • Improve chewing and speaking,
making daily activities easier and more enjoyable.
  • Preserve tooth tissue by eliminating the need for invasive procedures on surrounding teeth.

about Implants

These are made of a metal ‘root’ part and a crown part. Each implant consists of two main components: a durable titanium “root” that integrates with your jaw bone to act as a secure foundation for a replacement tooth and a beautifully crafted ceramic crown that looks and feels like a natural tooth. The treatment has an extremely high success rate and for most patients the tooth will not need replacing.
Several implants can hold a full set of teeth in place. Compared with traditional dentures, dental implants offer improved appearance, better speech and enhanced comfort. They are also durable and designed to fuse with your bone, which means they are secure and well-maintained Dental Implants can be expected to last for many years.

A small incision will be made in your gum to expose the bone where the implant will be placed. Using a specialised drill, our implant dentist Dr Parvinder Nijjar will carefully create a space in the jawbone for the implant. The titanium implant is then inserted into the bone. Finally, the gum is stitched up and a temporary crown may be placed over the implant to protect it during the healing process. Your finished crown will be attached at a later date, when the bone around the implant is fully healed.

Dental Implants are performed under the same local anaesthesia used in general dental treatments. The Dental Implant is inserted into the bone to replicate a natural tooth root. If bone regeneration has been planned at the consultation stage then this is usually done at the same time as the Dental Implant placement. The area is then closed together and the implant is allowed to integrate. You will leave with a replacement temporary tooth where the Dental Implant has been placed to ensure you are not left with a space and to protect the implant during the healing process. Dental Implants can take between three and six months to bond or osseointegrate with the surrounding bone with most patients experiencing minimal or no pain during this time. When the Dental Implant has sufficiently integrated, it is ready to have the implant crown fitted which is screwed into the Implant and will be made to blend in naturally with the rest of your teeth.

They are suitable for most people with teeth missing, provided they meet certain criteria. You will need to have healthy gums and sufficient bone density to support the implant. However, even if bone loss has occurred, procedures like bone grafting can make implants a possible option for you. Our implant dentist Dr Parvinder Nijjar will be able to tell you more after your consultation.

Our implant dentist Dr Parvinder Nijjar will be able to advise you at your consultation, but a full set of natural-looking dentures can be anchored in place with as few as four dental implants.  Implant retained dentures are ideal for anyone suffering from loose or ill-fitting dentures and can be life changing. They offer peace of mind so you can avoid embarrassing situations where your removable denture may let you down.
