These are made of a metal ‘root’ part and a crown part. Dental Implants are performed under the same local anaesthesia used in general dental treatments. The Dental Implant is inserted into the bone to replicate a natural tooth root. If bone regeneration has been planned at the consultation stage then this is usually done at the same time as the Dental Implant placement. The area is then closed together and the implant is allowed to integrate. You will leave with a replacement temporary tooth where the Dental Implant has been placed to ensure you are not left with a space and to protect the implant during the healing process. Dental Implants can take between three and six months to bond or osseointegrate with the surrounding bone with most patients experiencing minimal or no pain during this time. When the Dental Implant has sufficiently integrated, it is ready to have the implant crown fitted which is screwed into the Implant and will be made to blend in naturally with the rest of your teeth.
